United World Schools (UWS) works in some of the world's poorest regions to give out-of-school children access to free education. Our mission is to improve life opportunities, through education, for some of the world's poorest children living in remote and marginalised communities. Taking a business-like approach to tackling a social challenge, we partner with local communities and supporters around the world to teach the unreached.
In 2008, UWS began operations in Cambodia and since 2013 we have been on a steep growth curve, with our school development projects almost doubling in number each year. Over the last decade we have developed our expertise and created a robust, cost-effective and sustainable model. We have taken that model to new regions and two new countries, refining and adapting our approach to ensure that we are effectively meeting the needs of each context.
As a result, we have provided education access to c.25,000 children in areas where generations of children would otherwise never have seen the inside of a classroom. We have trained almost 400 members of local communities to be teachers and are running 160 schools across three countries, providing tailored support and training to ensure provision of quality education.
